Reveal refreshed, renewed facial skin with dermabrasion.
Dermabrasion is performed under local anesthesia or IV sedation depending on your comfort level with the procedure and the specific area treated. Dr. Afrooz will carefully abrade the top layers of your skin until the healthy layer of the epidermis is reached. Once the procedure is completed, a thick layer of petroleum jelly or antibiotic cream will be applied to the skin to keep it moist. This encourages healing with minimal to no scarring or scabbing.

If you are not ready to go under the knife, then dermabrasion might be a good option to restore your skin’s youthful glow. Good candidates include both men and women who have fine lines and wrinkles around the lips. Those with sun damage and skin pigmentation issues can benefit from dermabrasion.
As your skin heals and renews…
Dermabrasion is an outpatient procedure, but since you will still be feeling the effects of sedation after your treatment, you should plan to have a friend or family member drive you home. Dr. Afrooz will go over specific instructions on how to properly take care of the treated area, which will include proper cleanliness, and how to change your dressings. In about a week, you will notice a significant decrease in swelling. Within three weeks, it should be completely resolved. Your skin may still be pink in color for approximately six to eight weeks.
Are there risks?
As with any surgical procedure, there can be risks. These may include a reaction to the anesthetic used, possible scarring, swelling, and sensitivity to the sun. Dr. Afrooz will go over any concerns you may have and address all of your questions before your procedure.
