What is Hylenex Dissolver?

Hylenex® (hyaluronidase) is an FDA-approved enzyme derived from recombinant human DNA technology. It is specifically designed to break down hyaluronic acid (HA), the primary component of many popular dermal fillers such as Juvéderm®, Restylane®, and Belotero®.

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar molecule in the skin and connective tissue that retains water and provides volume. When injected, fillers bind to water molecules, creating structure and lift.

Hylenex works by catalyzing the hydrolysis of hyaluronic acid’s glycosidic bonds, dismantling the HA molecules and accelerating their breakdown by the body’s metabolic processes. Once injected, it begins to act within minutes and continues working over 24 to 72 hours, gently dissolving the unwanted filler and allowing the area to return to its pre-treated state.

Dissolving Lip Filler

While lip fillers can create beautiful volume and definition, overfilling or poorly placed product can lead to unnatural results, stiffness, or “migration” above the lip border. Hylenex offers a delicate yet effective way to soften or fully reverse these results.

Dissolving Under-Eye Filler

The under-eye area is one of the most challenging regions for filler. Misplaced product can cause puffiness, a bluish tint (Tyndall effect), or irregular contours. Hylenex allows us to safely dissolve under-eye filler with extreme precision, restoring a refreshed and smooth appearance. Dr. Afrooz’s extensive understanding of facial anatomy ensures this delicate procedure is performed with the highest level of skill and care.

What to Expect During Your Consultation

During your consultation, we’ll review your treatment history, assess your aesthetic goals, and perform a detailed facial analysis to determine the ideal dissolving approach. If dissolving is appropriate, we may proceed the same day or schedule treatment at your convenience. We’ll also discuss what to expect afterward and how best to time any future injectable procedures if desired.

Treatment, Recovery, and Results

Hylenex is injected directly into the area of unwanted filler using an ultra-fine needle. The enzyme works almost immediately and breaks down hyaluronic acid within 24 to 72 hours.

The number of sessions needed depends on the amount and location of filler, though many patients see improvement after just one treatment. Numbing is available for comfort, and the procedure is quick, often under 30 minutes.

Mild swelling, redness, or tenderness is common for a few hours to a few days post-treatment. Bruising is rare but possible. You’ll begin noticing results within 24 hours, with full effects typically visible within 3 to 7 days.

Once your natural baseline is restored, you may opt to re-treat the area with a more refined approach or enjoy your results as-is.

Hylenex Filler Dissolver FAQ

Can Hylenex dissolve all types of fillers?

How soon after getting filler can I have it dissolved with Hylenex?

Is the dissolving process painful?

Can I partially dissolve filler instead of removing it all?

How many sessions will I need?

Can Hylenex dissolve all types of fillers?

No, Hylenex only dissolves hyaluronic acid (HA)-based fillers such as Juvéderm®, Restylane®, and Belotero®. It does not affect non-HA fillers like Sculptra® (poly-L-lactic acid) or Radiesse® (calcium hydroxylapatite), which must naturally degrade over time or be addressed through other treatments.

How soon after getting filler can I have it dissolved with Hylenex?

In most cases, Hylenex can be administered as soon as 24 to 48 hours after the initial filler injection if there are issues like migration or vascular compromise. However, for elective correction, it’s often best to wait 1–2 weeks for swelling to subside so the results can be fully assessed before dissolving.

Is the dissolving process painful?

Discomfort is typically minimal. We use a topical numbing agent or local anesthetic to ensure your comfort, and the injection process is quick and precise. You may feel slight pressure or warmth at the injection site.

Can I partially dissolve filler instead of removing it all?

Yes. With Kayla’s precise technique and deep understanding of facial structure, we can often selectively reduce volume in specific areas while leaving some filler intact, if that aligns with your goals. The approach is customized to your anatomy and aesthetic preference.

How many sessions will I need?

Many patients achieve their desired results with a single session. However, larger volumes of filler or deeply placed product may require 2–3 treatments, spaced about one week apart. This will be assessed during your consultation.
